Is sending a present for Peter Rabbit. Don't open until Christmas! Will send books for Mary Virginia as soon as she and Miss Lewis (with whom she is partners in housekeeping) have read them. Found these nice children's books from England in a local book shop.   Willie   [Stout #144]

To Ferris GreensletNov. 1, [1915], from PittsburghHarvard

Has written to McClure about providing a sketch, but he is away in Texas. Will try to write the article for Book News if he will send more specific instructions. Let Mr. Scaife know about the quotable reviews in the Boston Advertiser and the New Bedford Standard. P.S.: Wondering if it will be reviewed in the Atlantic.  Willa Cather   [Stout #330]

To Edgar Lee MastersFeb. 9, [1919?]HRC

Glad he likes "Grandmither." Seldom writes verse. Unfortunately, the poems Monroe included in her noted anthology [The New Poetry, 1917] were garbled. Sorry to have been without a telephone, so missed hearing from him when he was in town.   Willa Cather   [Stout #450]

To Mary Austin,  n.d. [late 1920?] Huntington

Is very pleased with her article in El Palacio. Please drop in Friday afternoon. William Archer will be there.   Willa Cather   [Stout #517]

To Mrs. Charles Cather [mother]Nov. 26, [1921]TWU

Hopes they had a nice Thanksgiving. Had hers at home. Please tell Margie the French woman, Josephine, is back working for her part-time; she is an artist of housekeeping. Cook their own breakfast and have to carry in the ice to the icebox, which is pretty heavy. Would appreciate a couple of aprons for Christmas. Hasn't heard from Isabelle yet. Sorry to have been so testy this summer.   Willie   [Stout #563]

To Blanche KnopfDec. 27, [1921], from no. 5 Bank StreetHRC

Thanks for the Italian cruets and for the book Mr. Knopf sent. Will be in on Fridays again.   Willa Cather   [Stout #567]

To Mrs. George Seibel, Tuesday [Nov. 21, 1922?] details do not all fit with this date, but she may have been wishing to avoid seeing Mrs. Seibel, from New YorkWCPM

Returned from Boston last night [?] for the opening of a friend's play at the Empire [Zoë Akins's The Texas Nightingale]. Leaves Friday [?] for Nebraska to stay through Christmas. Sorry to miss her, but must get ready for the trip. Would like a chance to talk with her about Mr. Seibel's review of One of Ours. P.S.: Do go see The World We Live In.  Willa Cather   [Stout #646]
