Enclosing a review. Such a reader catches the whole better than those who concentrate on identifying originals for the characters. Please share with Carrie. Leaving for New York on the 30th.   Willie   [Stout #438]

To Ferris Greenslet,  n.d. [c. June 12, 1919] , from TorontoHarvard

Meant to ask him to keep secret that her new book will relate to the war. Looks as though 5 Bank Street is going to be torn down. Will have to rush back and find someplace to live. Looking forward to talking with him.   W. S. C.   [Stout #465]

To H. L. MenckenJuly 2, [1919], from TorontoBaltimore

Has only one story available [probably "Her Boss," Smart Set October 1919], and it has been declined by Century. He may have it for $100 if he wants it. Looking forward to seeing his book on the American language when she gets back to New York. Interesting that Conrad himself thinks the new book is weak.   Willa Cather   [Stout #467]

Quite satisfied with the new jacket, but quotation is misattributed. Will leave here the end of July and spend August in Jaffrey, N.H. Edith Lewis is looking at apartments. Is working well and hates to stop.   W. S. C.   [Stout #468]

To Ferris GreensletJuly 28, [1919], from TorontoHarvard

Will arrive at Jaffrey, N.H., August 1. Could he drive out sometime the latter half of the month? Needs a new tent like the one she used to write in. Please have a catalog sent to her at the Shattuck Inn in Jaffrey. Hopes to get as far as she can on the novel before stopping to do some stories she has promised. Hopes they will be better than the one in the current Century [ "Scandal" ]. Only reason she does short stories is for the income.   Willa Cather   [Stout #470]
