Thank you, dear Carrie1, for reassuring me about that mortgage4; I am much relieved in mind. I have at last shaken off the lassitude that followed influenza and am beginning to stir about. Our winter has just begun—very cold and windy.

The London5 notices6 of "Shadows"7 are all splendid. I enclose one from the London Times8, which is the only one of which I have a duplicate.

I feel wretched about the Lindberg baby9—such fine honest young people10, trying to live their lives decently, and made to suffer so cruelly.
