Thank you, dear brother1 for your interest in my election to the Academy7. Only three other women8 have ever been elected made members. Those things do not interest me much now except as they please my friends.

I am going down to New York9 on December fourth, in answer to urgent letters and appeals from all the Menuhins10. Yehudi's11 first recital is on the fifth. I scarcely feel well enough to go, but he always makes a point of giving a recital as near my birthday as possible. Last year it was on the 6th, and my birthday is on the 7th. He says he will be really disappointed if I am not there.

I enclose a rather wild letter from Marutha (Mrs. Menuhin)12 which you must tear up after you have read it. Her English gets a little mixed in writing, but she is a true and loyal friend.

We are under four feet of snow here2—I love it. The air here does me good and the quiet soothes my spirit.

Lovingly W.

I think you did wonderful work on the valuation of the refinery, Roscoe.
