How good you were to remember my strong preferance for the "hollow stem"! The glasses came in perfect condition and Douglass4 helped us to christen them at dinner on the night of my birthday, December 7th. On that occasion he presented me with one dozen of my favorite champagne! Yehudi5 sent me a large orange tree, with nine ripe oranges and four green ones on it. The rest of his family6 sent me—Champagne! Your glasses will have plenty of use, if I don't die of self indulgence.
I had such a happy visit with Douglass. He and the Menuhins arrived at about the same time, so life has been pretty hectic. He left December 8th, but since then Yehudi has been in town2 and has wanted me for walks and talks. I'm pretty weak to that boy—wouldn't you be? He's growing to be almost alarmingly intelligent, in other things than music. We have lots of funFUN. They are living in an hotel only four short blocks from me. I can see their tower from my bedroom window. We play there is a rainbow bridge over the roofs, and we can send thought messages. Though we are so near, the girls write me many notes. Soon Yehudi will go off on tour for four weeks, and Marutha and the girls will be left alone. The mother has been very ill, so they are living a very retired life just now.Lovingly and gratefully, my dears, Your Aunt Willie The Misses Cather1 754 Oak Street Colusa3 California NEW YORK2 DEC [missing] 1937 12 PM
