Would like to stop off in Lincoln before going on home. So much to tell! P.S.: Will be at the Canfields' in Columbus on the way. Willa [Stout #39]
Canfield: Willa has been ill with grippe but is better, her cough not so deep. Has also been sick herself. Expects to graduate in June. Cather: Took refuge with the Canfields because of prolonged grippe and overwork. Leaving tomorrow for Pittsburgh. Canfield: Family sends regards. Mrs. Flavia Canfield: Seconds Dorothy's invitation for Mariel to join them in Europe next year. Cather: Dorothy's brother has just left to take his fiancée home. Will write again from Pittsburgh. [Stout #53]
Enjoyed Thanksgiving visit to Columbus. Canfields away, leaving house to Dorothy, Jim and fiancée, and herself. Many parties. Is spending much of her leisure time with Ethelbert Nevin, a lovable man. Has been reading Kipling's poetry, as she used to at the university. [Stout #55]
Will take his poem "The Road at Night." He may recall they met some time ago and shared an admiration for Miss Guiney. Hopes he liked Guiney's "Wood-Doves" in the October issue. Enclosed: $20 check. Willa Sibert Cather [Stout #121]
Thanks for invitation from Authors Club for November 10, but has a commitment in Chicago that week. [Gave the William Vaughn Moody Lecture at the Univ. of Chicago on Nov. 17, 1925 and same lecture at the Women's City Club in Cleveland on November 20.] Willa Cather [Stout #801]
Had a good audience in a fine hall, so enjoyed giving the lecture, which went well. Enjoyed visit. Willie [Stout #805]
Returned from Chicago and Cleveland on Saturday and found in accumulated mail a copy of her Made-to-Order Stories. Will send it to twin nieces in their Christmas package. Visited niece Mary Virginia at Smith College on the way home. Sorry such an unworthy person [?] is settling near Dorothy. Willa [Stout #807]
Has just returned from Canada and begun to answer letters. Gives permission to make a Hungarian translation of either "Paul's Case" or "The Sculptor's Funeral." Secretary will send one of the pamphlets Knopf puts out giving biographical information. Can't send a photograph just now. Willa Cather [Stout #1236]
Can send a passport photograph taken some years ago, the only one she has with her to send. Requests like this take so much of her time she can hardly write! Willa Cather [Stout #1237]
Appreciates the book but can't read a word of Hungarian. Willa Cather [Stout #1254]
