Still doesn't know the amount of the hotel bill Irene paid, and would like to pay her debt. Isabelle sends thanks for the pleasant stay in Omaha. In Chicago, after her [Cather's] speech at the College Club, there was a dinner given by university classmates. Then went with Fanny Butcher to visit major book businesses, very tiring. Will send some good photos taken in Omaha.   Willie   [Stout #560]

To Harriet MonroeOct. 27, 1926, from Jaffrey, N.H.Chicago

Appreciates her sending [Fanny] Butcher's review, which shows a grasp of what the book means. It's true, as other reviewers have said, that we are our own worst enemies, but that isn't what the book is saying. Eyes are better.   Willa Cather   [Stout #856]

To Fanny ButcherOct. 27, [1926], from Jaffrey, N.H.Newberry

She is probably the only person who has perfectly understood the book. Meant to be showing the basic attraction/repulsion of being in a marriage. Henshawes are intense lovers. Please send another copy of the review. Has enjoyed her stay in Jaffrey and feels proud of the mountain climbing she has done. Archbishop begins in the Forum in January. A completely new form for her.   Willa Cather   [Stout #857]

To Fanny Butcher,  n.d. [Dec. 1926] Newberry

Yes, send it along and she'll be glad to do that favor [sign a copy?]. Not going home for Christmas.   W. S. C.   [Stout #863]
