People seem to have strong feelings about One of Ours, pro or con. Has been thinking he might like a memoir about Mrs. James T. Fields [for Yale Review], but through a misunderstanding Henry Seidel Canby is expecting such a piece from her [for Literary Review, New York Evening Post]. Returned from Boston last night [?] for the opening of a friend's play at the Empire [Zoë Akins's The Texas Nightingale]. Leaves Friday [?] for Nebraska to stay through Christmas. Hasn't answered her letter because so much has happened. Father died March 3, a quick, gentle death. Is staying on to get some repairs done on the house for when her mother comes back from California. Will hope to see her next time she is in Boston. Willa Cather [Stout #929]

Weather has been cold since she got back, but once she got over the flu has been going to concerts and operas. Sees Virginia about once a week. Despairing about the Lindberghs' baby! Police don't seem to be doing anything, and no one respects their privacy. When her child arrives, don't smother him with motherly doting. That ruins children. Willa Cather [Stout #1102]
Finds she failed to send check for maintenance on the house and yard. Enclosing a letter from Alfred Knopf about Sigrid Undset, whose books she probably knows; also letter from someone in Borneo. Please return them. Sorry to hear she has had shingles. Appreciates all her kind deeds, seeing that the yard is kept up and so forth. Hopes Helen Mac's delivery will be easy. Letters seem to have crossed. Edith sent Traveler's Aid booklet so Carrie could see pictures of real people the Society has assisted, not as an appeal for donation.
