To Mr. George Seibel and Mrs. Helen SeibelJune 21, 1897 on Home Monthly letterhead ; WCPM

Enjoyed Saturday evening. Probably will not see them again before she leaves. Jack will enjoy the brownies [rubber stamp] being sent by Erna [Seibels' baby].    Willa Cather   [Stout #38]

To R. L. ScaifeAug. 3, [1915], from PittsburghHarvard

New cover is fine. Leaves for Durango on Friday [August 6]. Uncertain where she'll be the next few weeks.   Willa Cather   [Stout #318]

To Ferris GreensletJan. 12, 1921, from New YorkHarvard

Has not seen Knopf for a while but has watched his advertising and decided to sign with him for "Claude." Decision based solely on publicity. Not a permanent commitment. Has not yet told Knopf. Greenslet seemed reluctant for her to write about the war or to write again about the West, and this book is primarily war and West. P.S.: Wants to write him personally before he leaves for Europe. [Stout #528]

Returned from Boston last night [?] for the opening of a friend's play at the Empire [Zoë Akins's The Texas Nightingale]. Leaves Friday [?] for Nebraska to stay through Christmas. Sorry to miss her, but must get ready for the trip. Would like a chance to talk with her about Mr. Seibel's review of One of Ours. P.S.: Do go see The World We Live In.  Willa Cather   [Stout #646]

To Lorna BirtwellNov. 27, [1922]Columbia

Appreciated her interesting comments on One of Ours. Most critics wanted her to repeat Ántonia, though only two reviewers had liked it [ Ántonia ] when it was new. Has been delayed by work on proofs of new edition of April Twilights, so won't have Thanksgiving at home after all. Leaves tomorrow.   Willa Cather   [Stout #650]

To Dorothy Canfield Fisher,  Tuesday [Nov. 28, 1922] , from New YorkUVt

Has been ill and won't be able to visit. Leaves tomorrow for Nebraska, too late to reach home for Thanksgiving. Annie Fields was even better than she said in her article. Claude has sold over 30,000.   Willa   [Stout #651]
