⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ Dear Jessie1:

I am so sorry not to be able to send the children4 anything this year. But this little town5 is sleepier than western towns, and there are no toys in it. I got a little sad elephant, but he was so rickety that he broke before I got him home and I gave him to the wash-woman's little boy. I got some little handkerchiefs for Mary Virginia6, just to let her know that I had not forgotten her. Neither Isabelle7 or I are trying to send any presents from here this year, as there is nothing here to buy. So I can only send lots of love and good wishes to you and the children, and wish you all a happy Christmas. Mother8 says the new baby9 is such a handsome little fellow.

Affectionately Willie
