Dear Mr. Greenslet1:

Thank you3 for the statement which is truly pleasing.

Please drop me a line and tell me about when you would want the copy for the introduction4 to "Alexander's Bridge"5.

By the way, I have never asked you for an advance, but I have at present such a beautiful bouquet of doctor's bills6 that I wonder whether it would be convenient for you to send me half of the amount due me in September, sometime this month. I am not destitute exactly, but you would greatly oblige

Yours truly, Willa Cather Mr. Ferris Greenslet,1 Houghton, Mifflin Company, 4 Park Street, Boston7, Mass.

Have you seen what Mencken8 says9 about "Antonia"10 in the May "Smart Set"11, page 14012? It's an interesting article on male and female novelists, by the way.
