Dear Bishop Beecher1;

Could you dine with me tomorrow evening, Wednesday the fourteenth, at seven oclock, at my apartment at 570 Park avenue3? It will give me so much pleasure if you can come. I live at the corner of Park avenue and 63d street, and the entrance is on 63d.

Please telegraph me as soon as you get this note. It is hard to get me by telephone, as my name is not in the book and I keep the telephone shut off while I am working. My maid4 is a Frenchwoman and does not take messages very well, so the safest way is to telegraph.

One of the devoted of your flock, Willa Cather

I do hope you can come, dear friend! I have kept this date open in the hope that you could.
