passage written by Cather on separate enclosure. | written text |
The lovely violets came on Christmas eve, just after I got home from having
dinner with Yehudi5 and Nola6, just the three of us and the baby7. When I opened the box the fresh
fragrance and your card brought made a
lovely ending to a beautiful day. And those flowers from you bring so many
memories from back through the long years. I wish I could talk to you about
them all—and I shall manage to, before so very
long. This is a secret, but, but we
must meet at some hotel on the C.P.R.8, or some other railroad, where no one will know us.
Perhaps Vancouver9?
Isn't Margaret II10 a niece to be proud of? Such vitality! Elizabeth11 sent me her new photograph for Christmas.
