⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My dear Virginia1:

I think you were awfully kind to write me all about John's5 service with the two Navies. What an experience for a young man! The British navy is about the hardest, sternest school in the world, and a man who can command the respect and win the friendship of British officers is a man, and a gentleman and a seaman. It must be a great happiness to you, my dear, to have a husband of whom you can be so proud. I feel so happy in the pleasure which I know all this will give you and your father3. Your cripple-fist6 aunt salutes you with all her heart!

Lovingly W. S. C.
Dear Brother3,

my hand is getting better, slowly.

W.
