⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ Dear Mr. Knopf1:

Mr. Bell3 executed his commission4 faithfully, and as a result I have gained several quite un-needed pounds. Candy is unquestionably a solace in a city2 where two percent beer is at once the best5 and the worst one can do. Thank you for discharging a wholly imaginary debt.

I have been staying with old friends here, Mr.6 & Mrs. Jan Hambourg7, who know your father8, it seems. For August I shall be at The Shattuck Inn9, Jaffrey, New Hampshire10. After that I go west11.
