The society3 of two very lively and very charming nieces4 hasn’t given me a moment for letter writing. The weather has been glorious, and I did not want them to miss a day of it, so we began to make excursions to my favorite spots before the house was settled—that was possible because I put my guests up at a summer camp5 about a quarter of a mile away from my own cottage6. When we7 built we made a special point of having no guest room, no room which could be made into one!
Friday’s Tribune8 has just arrived and it horrifies
me. I do hope the dreadful heat will be over before
Blanche9 reaches New York10. This island2 was never so green and lovely as this year. Today is rather
foggy—the a woolen suit and a low wood fire very
comfortable. I wish you still had your country place and swimming pool!
