⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My Very dear Charles1;

A great many flowers streamed in upon me on my birthday, but none were so lovely as the gorgeous pink roses you sent, and no others lasted so long. They held their own for five whole days and made my sitting room and bed room like a garden.

On December fifth I had to have a tooth taken out—a big back one, and it hurt like fury! So I was especially happy to have flowers about me. I can't tell you, my dear boy, how much your and Helen Louise's5 friendship means to me. I think of you both often and very lovingly. Please write to me sometime and tell me what you doing and whether you live comfortably.

I am incidentally your Aunt, but truly your friend Willa Cather
