My dear Mr. Melcher1:

You would tempt me to break my resolution if anybody could, but I am not going to give any talks for the next two years. Even a little of that sort of thing cuts up one's time too much, and my winter has been pretty well shot to pieces by external things that were pleasant to do. I'm going to cut it out! There's a general conspiracy to prevent me from writing.
