Note Relating to Cather
"There are some people, first-rate people, who do not think Hoyt funny. They are generally of foreign blood or tastes.... Just now the American public is a big, restless baby which likes the color of pretty costumes, the noise of loud laughter, the music of very limited composers. It likes Hoyt, and it likes Sousa's 'Liberty Bell,' and it will continue to do so in spite of their nibs, the critics. Let it alone, it will grow old and nasty tempered soon enough."
