In a 1902 article in the Gazette, Cather calls Lloyd Mifflin an English representative of the new school of verse.

In the same article, Cather writes: "There are few of his sonnets which are sustained throughout or which do not contain lines that were evidently written simply because the form demanded a certain number of lines."
