In an 1899 Courier article Cather writes: "His book is full-blooded, free from literary affectations, lusty and wholesome and full of joy in out-of-door life ..."

In a 1901 Courier article Cather says that Children of the Mist "convinced all critical readers that a new man had entered the ranks of the great English novelists."
