In "Eric Hermannson's Soul" Margaret Elliot's fiance writes to her about his opportunity to manage a production of As You Like It.
According to an 1899 Courier article, Cather says of Hewlett's The Forest Lovers: "Mr. Hewlett makes no more effort to produce an historical setting than Shakespeare did in As You Like It."
