I sent up to Brentano's yesterday and found that they were well supplied with copies
of "Antonia"4. They were out of it for a
period of six or eight weeks, however, and the salesman said they had a good many
calls for the book during the period when they had none. Relative to the supply in
Chicago5, I enclose an extract from a
letter from one of the people of the Donnelley Company to one of the people on "Popular Mechanics"6 here. For several weeks
before Christmas there were no copies in Chicago or Detroit7. I suppose this could not be helped, and I am not stating
it in the nature of a complaint, but merely because people whom I know in both
cs cities wrote me about it.
The Donnellys10 have been very much interested in "Antonia." Young Mr. Donnelly sent me word that last Christmas he had given one to each of his best friends.
