NUMBER FIVE BANK STREET3 Dear Mrs. Austin1:

I am so sorry not to be able to go to you this afternoon. I have been fussing with a badly sprained ankle of late, and yesterday the doctor came and took off the straps, telling me to stay indoors today and to keep my foot up. When I want to see both you and Mr. White4 so much, and you are so near5, it's disgusting to be kept away.

Faithfully yours Willa Cather

I hope we are going to be neighbors.
