Will you please forward the enclosed letter to Irene4 for me? I have not her new address, I find.
Both Lincoln5 and Chicago6 were exhausting experiences7, though very pleasant, and since I got home2 I have been trying your plan of staying in bed. Of course, there are a hundred people whom I ought to see, but so far I’ve refused to see anyone but Isabelle8 and my publisher9. Isabelle sails on Saturday. She sends love to all the Miners,—love and deep gratitude. Somehow I feel prouder of all that my two childhood friends were willing to do for me in Omaha10 than of any other feature of that occasion11. Nothing on earth strengthens one’s arm like having one’s old, old friends take a part in one’s life-work. That is particularly so with me, for my old affections are the very springs out of which my best work flows.
With a world of love to you and Mary12, and to Walter13 and the Doctor14,
Yours always WillieMy typewriter has got out of repair in my absence, so please excuse the poor typing.
