⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ Five Bank street³ June 8th JUNE 10 1924 Dear Mr. Robbins¹;

Circumstances have detained me in New York², so that I shall be able to stop⁴ in Ann Arbor⁵ on my way west, instead Of returning from the West to Ann Arbor as I had originally planned.

I will therefore arrive in Ann Arbor Sunday Morning, June 15, and I hope one of your office staff can meet me and show me to my quarters.

P. S. I shall arrive on the 'Wolverine', which I believe reaches Ann Arbor at 8:12 in the morning.

5 Bank Street (New York City): The apartment Cather shared with Edith Lewis beginning in 1912, located in Greenwich Village in the Manhattan borough of New York City. Subway construction forced Cather and Lewis to relocate in 1927.

Cather was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Michigan on 16 June 1924.

Robbins, Frank Eggleston (1884-1963). American scholar and administrator. Born in Westfield, MA, son of Joseph and Ella Eggleston Robbins, Frank Eggleston Robbins took his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in classics at Wesleyan University in 1906 and 1907. He became an instructor of Greek at the University of Chicago, where he earned his PhD in 1911. From 1912 to 1921 he was an assistant professor of Greek at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He joined the administration there, becoming assistant to the president of the University. Cather corresponded with Robbins about her visit to Ann Arbor when the university conferred an honorary degree on her in 1924.
