Some weeks ago I had a letter from you introducing, but not naming, a young friend3. The young friend also wrote me – address 51 W. 16th Street – but the young friend's name is written in Hebrew. Four people, all rather clever at handwriting, have tried to aid me to decipher these characters. I might go to the rabbi – that is the only course left open, unless you, if you are in town2, will come and have tea with me some afternoon, as you long ago promised to do. Are you still here, and can we arrange to have tea together? I have been back from Nebraska4 only a few weeks – I was out West nearly all winter.
Very cordially yours, Willa CatherThe letter introduced Margery Latimer—or tried to do so!—
