We3 were on our way here, via D. & R. G.4 when you stopped here5 Wednesday morning. I will finish my proofs6 on Sunday, and we plan to leave Alcalde2 on Monday or Tuesday.
I wonder if you would care to rent us on of your guest houses on a cash basis? You see Miss Lewis and I are travelling together, and while my advice about your manuscript7 might (possibly) be worth my board and keep, I doubt whether I could stretch my wisdom far enough to cover the keep of two people. We would not have more than two weeks, at most, to spend in Taos8. I'm sure I don't know why you thought you wanted us—I don't believe we are either of us very exciting visitors.
If you are in Santa Fé9, this letter will miss you. If you are in Taos, and could telephone me here at the ranch at 12:15 on Sunday, or eight oclock Monday morning, you could tell me whether you'd like us for tenants. If I don't hear from you we'll go back to Santa Fé and from there up to Cowles10.
Faithfully yours Willa Cather
