⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ Dear Mr. Griffith1;

I deeply appreciate the invitation from the Authors Club for November 10th, and I heartily wish I could be present with you on that occasion. I have an engagement3 in Chicago4 for that week, and will thereby miss the pleasure of seeing several old friends whom you tell me will be at the anniversary dinner. I thank you and the committee for remembering me.

Sincerely yours Willa Cather
