File ⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My dear Mr. Chambers1:

Until last week I have not been in New York2 since last June. This is why your letter has remained so long unanswered. I appreciate the kindness of your invitation, but I almost never lecture nowadays and this summer I shall be in Europe3. Thank you for your kind word about my new book4. I shall hope to meet you sometime, even if it cannot be in connection with the summer school.

Very cordially yours, Willa Cather
