⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My dear Miss Lane1:

I was very much pleased to have a note from you, and I wish I could answer it by sending you a short story, but I haven't written a short story since "Uncle Valentine"3, and I do not know when I will have time to do another. I enjoy more working in the longer form, and am just now well started with a new novel4. When I do have a short story, you shall have a look at it, I promise you.

Very sincerely yours, Willa Cather
