It was indeed kind of you to send me the English reviews of "Obscure Destinies"3. Certainly the one4 from the Manchester Guardian5 was very gratifying6 to me. I am interested to know that you were at the University of Michigan, in the English Department, when I received my degree7 there. I have gone through that same ceremony a good many times since then, but I always remember the first time8 with especial pleasure. I think the University that gives you your first honorary degree is the one that shows some courage. Princeton University9, too, showed courage when they gave me the first degree that they had ever given to a woman.
I hope you are enjoying your vacation in London10, and that the British Museum is as pleasant a place to work in as it used to be.
Very cordially yours, Willa Cather
