⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My Dearest Zoë1;

Certainly it's late in the day to thank you for the splendid pictures of your home3, and for the only good picture of you I've ever had. I'm delighted with it, and I'm glad to have that very impressive picture of Hugo4. He does all you say of him—it's in the very way he stands on his feet. (How many ways there are of standing!) My house5 is getting more settled every day, but all the people I've ever known, from all parts of the world, are in town2 at once, and I'm leading the life of an escaped convict just now—or like a hare with the dogs after it. I've not ever attempted to work any. But on March 1st I'm going to shut the doors and take out the telephone.

I know you were sorry to hear about Sarah Teasdale6. I can't understand her not not finding this thrilling world itself enough to live for. Now I'm rushing off to a concert with the dear Menuhin family7 so I must say goodbye with my warmest love to you, dear Zoe.
