⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ Dear Carl Van Vechten1;

And I thought you had got my letter3 and were keeping aloof because you were displeased with me! Anyhow, I'm glad that was not so, though I certainly missed a chat with you. It's good of you to be so generous about my quibbles—you are a large-minded man and there is nothing small about you—I've known that for a long while. We'll try photography again sometime, and I am always your friend.
