⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My dear Carl Van Vechten1:

The new address has already gone into my address book, and I hope your new place is as nice as your old. It was nice of you to tell me that you like the book3, but please don't use the word "nostalgic" at me any more!! Everybody else uses it, so don't you. Moreover, they use it about every book I write. My God, I am not always homesick!

You know, one could not do that same thing with the voice and singers. At least, I could not. I would become too sentimental, from the simple fact that when one is very young, one enjoys those things (the orchestra, the voice, the creatures) too much. We get sentimental when we write about our old delights.

Very sincerely yours, old friend, Willa Cather
