⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My dear Mr. Austermann1:

It was a great disappointment to me not to be able to get to Jaffrey4 this winter, when the winter was so especially fine, but I was so long delayed and held back by influenza that as soon as I could sit at a desk I longed to get to work again more than I wanted anything else. I am delighted to hear that you were able to sell the McCoy farm to the right kind of people. You will have a hard time keeping undesirable people out of the village, and I am sorry to hear that two rather questionable people have bought houses so near the Common. As yet, I have not been able to make any definite plans for the summer or fall. I have only one object just now, and that is to get the best possible place to work in5. There is certainly no place where I enjoy the autumn season as I do in Jaffrey, and I hope I can get round to you by September, wherever else I spend the summer.

Please tell Eleanor6 that I was delighted with Kurt7's photograph. What a strapping little fellow he has become.! I certainly enjoyed being his neighbor last spring.

With all my good wishes to you, Eleanor and Mrs. Shattuck8, believe me,

Always sincerely yours, Willa Cather
