To the Board of Directors,
American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Gentlemen:

I disapprove3 of the amendment passed by the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Arts and Letters on April 12, 1940 which reads as follows: "RESOLVED that ARTICLE IV of the By-laws be amended by striking out Section 2 and renumbering the following sections of that Article, and by amending ARTICLE IV, Section 10 by striking out the words 'from among the members of the National Institute of Arts and Letters.'"

I sincerely hope that this amendment will be rescinded.

Very truly yours, Willa Cather Member of the American Academy of
Arts and Letters
