⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My dear Elsie1:

I am sending you my advance copy of "Sapphira"3 today, but I am sorry to say that I cannot autograph it for you. I have a very troublesome right hand4 at present, and I have to carry it in a sling. I have strained the big tendon of my thumb in some way. I had a good deal of trouble with a hand once before, you may remember. But then it was the left hand5. The right one is a difficult proposition. I will let you know later how I get on with it. It is not painful, if I keep it still - which is hard to do!

With loving greetings to you and Pauline6 and Josephine Goldmark7,

WILLA CATHER
