⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ Dear Julian Street1:

Indeed, you shall have a book3 and a book autographed to you and Mrs. Street4. But I have been carrying my right hand5 in a sling for three weeks and there are worse troubles to come, I am afraid. A sprain resulted in an inflamation of the big tendon which runs from the thumb up the wrist. I have not been able to go over to the Knopf office and send a number of books to friends as I intended. I will telephone the office tomorrow and ask them to send you a copy of the new book at once. Then in the future, when I have a whole hand again, send me your book and I will autograph it with a right good will. In the meanwhile, let me wish you a Happy Christmas Season, and I send the friendliest of greetings to both you and Mrs. Street.

Faithfully yours, WILLA CATHER Per S. J. Bloom6
