⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ My dear Dorothy1:

My right hand is in splints3 at present, so I can't write you a letter, but I wish you would send me the note4 you wrote for the Book-of-the-Month-Club Bulletin5. I sprained the big tendon in my right thumb several weeks ago and did not take proper care of it, so now it is a very serious factor in life. Thumbs are so slow. If it does not get better very soon, I am going into the French Hospital6 for the Christmas Season. It is a lovely place and all the nurses there are so intelligent and gentle.

WILLA CATHER
