FG Dear F.G.1

Before answering3 your wire I had to consult4 Knopf5, as he has in his files a letter sent to me by Allan Nevins6.

While Nevins was lecturing at English universities, he was "approached" by an English publisher with a plan to publish some of the newer American classics (I love newer classics!) in a cheap edition. I kept no copy of Nevins' letter, but sent it to Alfred. I had to be sure that the two plans did not conflict before I could accept Heinemann7's offer. I am glad to be able to do so. I surmise this edition will be for made for a Workingmans' Union8"Antonia"9 has always made friends among working people.
