⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ Dear Sigrid Undset1;

The long agony is over4 at last. What a beautiful world was destroyed, and how long it will be before a real peace will come back! Surely the San Francisco5 "Conference"6 was a pitiful affair. My brother7 was there. Everyone was hungry and cross. There was no food, and the newspaper men slept in hallways, on cots. The Russians slept in their own battleship which was loaded with good food and wine. They took no chances. I'm afraid they will take no chances in the future.

Please let me know before you sail for Norway8. I want so much to see you again before you leave us.

Admiration and affection always from Willa Cather
