Dear Mr. Greenstreet:

I do not think that the Viking Publishing Company, after emphatic refusals5 by Mr. Knopf6 and myself, will try to worry enough copy out of you to make a "PORTABLE WILLA CATHER7". However, it is better to be on the safe side and I therefore want to let you know that I simply refuse to be a "Portable". I wonder that any self-respecting person is willing to be a "Portable". It seems to me rather the worst form of Anthology yet devised.

Cordially yours, Willa Cather
