Just a word to you for Thanksgiving, and I hope Carolina3 sends you nice flowers. Mary
Virginia4 telephoned me from school5 the other night that she is coming down2 to spend Thanksgiving with a friend. I asked her to come to
us6 Friday, to spend the night, [illegible] as we will have out turkey on Friday instead of Thursday. On Thursday I have to go to the
Knopfs7 for dinner z(an engagement made by letter when I was still in the country) and then
with them to a box party for the Boston
Symphony8, and a supper party after the concert! So I've decided to make
that a day of mourning, and have my Thanksgiving next day. I don't enjoy these gaudy
parties, you know. I like to go to hear music alone, and hate to be on parade in a
box with people I know all about. But I have to do these things sometimes, just to
avoid being called a sour recluse.
Tell me, Mother dear, doesn't our baby, Helen
Louise9, really need another coat after Christmas? I don't want to
make her think too much about clothes, but I think the little green coat ought to
be
for every day after Christmas, and I'll gladly send her another one. You'll see her
at Thanksgiving, please tellm me what she wants for
Christmas.
Dr. Tyndale10 writes me that Louise Westermann11 is in a very very bad way indeed. I am so sorry.
I Hope you will have a lovelt Thanksgiving, dearest Mother, Willie
