passage written by Cather on separate enclosure. | written text |
You were nice to write me about your hazard of new fortunes3. It makes me sad to think of your leaving lovely Lander4 and your nice house there. Such a delightful place for little girls to grow up! And I thought Casper5 a Hell–town—clearly marked out for the Prince of Darkness. However, you know what is best for you.
Work and my bad ankle6 and all sorts of worries have kept me from writing before. I've been far from well this winter. Now I am here resting with Isabelle7 and Jan8, who are always so wonderfully kind to me. The inclosed may assure you. I disclaim any responsibility for the dates—wished to God they were correct!—as I've been too ill to see the newspaper people at all.
With much love to you and yours Willa
