My Dear Roscoe1;

I have lost a true friend3 — one of the most helpful and kind I ever knew — and the business has lost a strong arm. It will affect us all seriously.

I am so proud of Virginia4 that she won the scholarship again, and I enclose a check to show my appreciation. I wish it were larger, but you know the story; none of my grand railroad stocks pay at all, etc. etc.

With love to all of you. Willie
