Please read Undset's5 article6—it is very good and very human—just right for Christmas time. She was here for dinner with us7 last night. The first time I have seen her since I went in for abdomenal surgery8, though I have had many letters from her. It was a great pleasure. She is so big and strong and, I might almost say, savage! At the same time as gentle as a lamb.
Tell your Virginia9 that I have sent her a splendid book10 of it's kind—the best one of it's kind I know. In choosing it for her, I pay a compliment not only to her intelligence but to her strength of character as well.
I wish you and yours a Happy Christmas, dear. We are trying to get the home
cleaned up for the Holidays; Yehudi11
was in town2 for two weeks on his
way to Cuba12 &
Florida13. He was so lovely to us
Too tired to write, dear, but I love you very much.Willie
