⬩W⬩S⬩C⬩ Dearest Virginia1

I am in despair about books for the twins4! I don't know what they have. Please tell me, have they Kipling's5 Jungle Books6, Louisa Alcott's7 books, Lord Fauntleroy8? Hans Brinker9, Pilgrim's Progress10? Black Beauty11? Tom Sawyer12?

What other books do they sigh for, and what books do you most want? If you'll send me a list, then I'll know where I'm at. It's too late for this Christmas, but I want a list for future guidance.

Your nice letter just came, dear. I'm glad I'm not a disgrace to my darling nieces, anyhow! You must write me as soon as you read the first number13 of The Archbishop14. He is my real Christmas present to my nieces, and all my dear family. You can't buy him over the counter—you have to have a real foxy aunt who can make him, or go without.

With love to you all, my dear Willa Cather

For dear West Virginia1 with my love,—this was sent all the way from Paris15 for her.
