This small check is instead of flowers for each. If I were as loudLOUD as I am proud6 (and do you know what that's from?) I would send a check with two more zeros attached. But the times are hard, as you have doubtless heard before, and I am sending your Virginia7 a check today—not very large, either! But going to a Commencement8 is an expensive pleasure when you have done anything that puts you in the criminal class and therefore have to hide from photographers and Literary Ambition! If I were getting a degree for scholarly research, you understand, I would be let alone and could wear a middy blouse if I chose.
I am awfully proud of all three of you, and I hope we can all spend a summer together before very long.
With heaps of love Your Aunt Willie Elizabeth3 & Margaret Cather4 1225 South Centre St Casper5 Wyoming NEW YORK, N.Y. STA Y2 MAY 23 1933 1 – PM
