Dear Elsie1:

Just back from Quebec4. I long-distanced M.V.5 last night to find when her father6 would be here, and invited the Auld family7 to dine with me Sunday night.

I enclose letter from Fritz Westermann8. You see I took no chances this time! The story "Double-Birthday"9 has a sketch10 of Dr. Tyndale11 in it, so I simply sent it to Fritz and asked him whether I should publish it or not12 – told him I wouldn't think of doing it if it would annoy him or the Doctor.

It will be out in the February Forum13 (Forum). Dr. Leach14 says it is the best short story he ever published, but it's really not much. I can't work without a house to work in, and I can't work where I hate my surroundings. I've always felt in my bones that Long Beach15 would be just as you say it it is. One has only to reason it out from the people who go there!

With love to you W.

I think Fritz is real nice and un-grudging, don't you?
